Emma & Rueben’s Autumn Wedding in Devon

Emma and Rueben’s wedding in Devon was one of those days that felt completely and unmistakably like them. From the autumn colours and countryside setting to the Converse worn by the bridal party, every part of the day had their own style and personality running through it.

It was relaxed, fun and full of those little details that made the wedding feel personal rather than overly traditional.

The autumn colours were everywhere, giving the day a really beautiful warmth. The changing leaves and countryside around the venue created the perfect backdrop, with deep seasonal colours that worked so well with the rest of the day.

And then there were the Converse.

Emma and Rueben’s bridal party looked brilliant, with everyone wearing Converse as part of their wedding outfits. It was such a simple detail, but it summed up the whole wedding really well. They weren't trying to make their wedding look like someone else's. They were making it their own.

After the service, everyone headed outside to enjoy one of my favourite wedding additions — a coffee truck waiting outside. With drinks in hand, everyone had a chance to relax, catch up and enjoy the afternoon before the celebrations continued.

It was exactly the kind of detail that suited the day. Nothing too formal or complicated. Just good coffee, good company and everyone enjoying being together.

There was a great sense of fun throughout the day, with plenty of moments between friends and family that made it feel relaxed and natural. From the getting ready and the excitement building in the morning through to the celebrations later in the day, there was always something happening.

And when it came to dinner, Emma and Rueben went for pizza.

A pizza van arrived to serve up dinner, which felt like the perfect choice for a wedding that was so relaxed and personal. Rather than a formal sit-down meal, everyone could grab some pizza, find a seat and carry on enjoying the celebrations.

It's little things like this that I love about weddings. They don't have to follow a particular formula. You can take the bits you love, forget the bits you don't, and create a day that actually feels like you.

I loved how much personality came through in the photographs. Weddings can sometimes become focused on getting everything perfectly right, but Emma and Rueben's day was much more about enjoying it. The little interactions, the laughs, the hugs and the moments between people were all part of what made the day so memorable.

One of my favourite things about photographing weddings is seeing how differently every couple puts their own stamp on the day. Emma and Rueben really embraced that. Their clothes, their bridal party, the autumn colours, the coffee truck, the pizza van and all the little choices throughout the day felt like a reflection of who they are.

And that's what made their wedding so much fun to photograph.

There was also a brilliant countryside feel to the day, with the Devon landscape providing a beautiful backdrop for the photographs. The autumn light and colours made everything feel particularly cinematic, especially as the day moved on and the light began to soften.

But, as always, it wasn't really about the scenery or the details. It was about the people.

Emma and Rueben surrounded themselves with the people they love, and there was a real sense of togetherness throughout the day. The kind of atmosphere where everyone seemed to know each other, everyone was up for having a good time, and the celebrations could just unfold naturally.

Looking back through their photographs, what stands out most is just how much of *them* is in the day.

It was stylish without feeling overly formal, personal without being complicated, and full of fun from beginning to end.

A very memorable Devon wedding, and a brilliant couple to spend the day with.
